Little Hats, Big Hearts™

February 1st to February 28th, During the month of February, NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital is participating in the Little Hats, Big Hearts™ campaign led by the American Heart Association. The national initiative is designed to raise awareness of the importance of heart health for babies, moms and everyone else! In addition, infants born at our Hospital in February will receive specially knitted or crocheted red hats to call attention to congenital heart defects and what can be done to help prevent them.


National Wear Red Day

Friday, February 1st, 11:00am to 1:00pm, NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital celebrates National Wear Red Day®! Our employees and medical staff will wear red as a symbol of support for women and their fight against heart disease. From 11am to 1pm, join us in the Hospital’s Main Lobby for information about heart disease warning signs and the latest treatments. Plus, meet Katie Campbell, RD, CDN, CD and Gianna Masi, Intern, from the Outpatient Nutrition team. They will be offering up information on heart healthy diets. Learn how fat and sodium can impact your health; and how eating more plant-based foods can help keep your heart healthy. 


Weight Loss (Bariatric) Surgery Information Session

Tuesday, February 5, 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm

The Columbia University Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital invites you to attend our free preoperative information session. Led by our clinical team, the session provides information on surgical options, expected weight loss, and lifestyle changes required after bariatric surgery. All patients considering weight loss surgery are encouraged to attend an info session prior to scheduling a consultation.

Weight Loss (Bariatric) Surgery Support Group

Wednesday, February 6, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

This support group is open to our patients preparing for bariatric surgery and those who have already had the operation. Its purpose is to address patient concerns about their upcoming surgery, and provide support to those post-surgery. Led by our clinical team and a licensed social worker, the group is designed to help patients anticipate, identify, and cope with changes in their lives before and after a procedure.

Joint Replacement Seminar

Wednesdays, February 6, 13, 20, 27, 9:45 am to 11:15 am

Are you tired of knee, hip or shoulder pain? Have you scheduled joint replacement surgery? Whether or not you are planning to get a new knee or hip, all are welcome to attend our pre-operative Joint Replacement Patient Education class. You’ll learn firsthand about the surgical and rehabilitative experience and meet our multidisciplinary team who can answer your questions.

Aphasia Support Group Meeting

Wednesdays, February 6, 13, 20, 27, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Aphasia is a communication disorder that often results from damage to the brain – usually caused by stroke. It can affect the ability to speak and understand, read and write. Led by an NYP Lawrence speech therapist, these free meetings are for anyone who has the condition. The gatherings offer information on how to improve communication, language games, and a place to make friends in a supportive environment. Living with Cancer Support Group

Thursdays, February 7, 21, 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm

This ongoing support group is for adults who have been recently diagnosed with cancer or are in treatment, and is led by licensed clinical social workers from Gilda’s Club.

Breastfeeding Support Group

Monday, February 11, 10:00 am to Noon

The Breastfeeding Support Group offers new mothers the opportunity to learn from one another and receive professional guidance from Rosanna Terrero-Arnoux, RN, BSN, IBCLC,

an NYP Lawrence Lactation Counselor. Meetings are free and open to all, regardless of where you gave birth. To learn more about the Group or the Center for Maternal-Child Health, call 914-787-2141.

Breastfeeding Preparation Class

Monday, February 11, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

If you need extra support and education about breastfeeding, please attend our Breastfeeding Preparation class. Instruction includes tips on how to prevent common problems and positioning techniques. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required.

Post-Treatment Cancer Support Group

Tuesday, February 12, 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm

This ongoing support group offers cancer survivors a chance to learn about the late effects of cancer treatment. Led by licensed clinical social workers from Gilda’s Club Westchester, the program provides the opportunity to share and learn from other participants regardless of their specific cancer diagnosis or course of treatment.

Heart Disease Prevention Presentation at Bronxville Senior Citizens Services Center

Tuesday, February 12th, 1:00pm to 2:00pm, Interventional cardiologist, Dr. Amisha J. Patel will give a free presentation on the prevention of heart disease and the latest trends in interventional cardiology at the Bronxville Senior Citizens Center. The Center is located within The Reformed Church of Bronxville in the Edwards Room, 180 Pondfield Road, Bronxville. This event is open to the general public. Commit to Loving Your Heart on Valentine’s Day

Thursday, February 14th, 11:00am to 1:00pm, NYPBeHealthy Wellbeing Coach, Carena Lowenthal, MS, RD, CHWC, will be in the Hospital’s Main Lobby to offer education on the importance of exercise and your health; along with meaningful wellness strategies. There will also be information on heart disease symptoms and risk factors along with the benefits of plant-based diets.  


Childbirth Class

Saturday, February 16, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

Our childbirth classes provide you with important information about the birthing process and answer your questions concerning what to expect during labor. Classes are taught by certified Lamaze instructors. A tour of the Center for Maternal-Child Health is also included.

Meet the Doctor featuring Robert Sommer, MD

Tuesday, February 26th, 6:30pm to 8:00pm – Join Dr. Sommer when he gives a free talk on: “Stroke, Migraine Headaches, Obstructive Sleep Apnea and other Weird Symptoms caused by an Undiagnosed Hole in the Heart”. Dr. Sommer is a NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital and ColumbiaDoctors’ board-certified cardiologist and researcher who has spent more than 25 years treating adults and children with congenital heart disease. This Meet the Doctor presentation will be held at Lake Isle Country Club located at 660 White Plains Road in Eastchester. Light, heart healthy refreshments will be served.
